Have you ever tried building up a force outside an AI city? I do it sometimes, just to inflict the morale penalty, especially when I know the AI is locked down. But, at the same time, it can make some very odd decisions. In combat, it inflicts the nastiest damage it seems capable of inflicting, preferring heroes and units that you really don't want to lose. It will never sit back and wait while you recover. The AI has been built in such a way that it provides a challenge, with a few odd side effects. It's puzzling to me that the AI could act as ruthless and cunning as a human player one minute, then do something so utterly dumb the next. Nope, they shot the strongest remaining enemy unit. I thought well of course the archer unit will shoot the weakened unit removing it from battle.

Lazy, I know, but in my condition (buzzing hard) it was probably the better decision. I find it an amazing achievement.Īt some points particularly early on I would let the AI control battles. Lots of lines of code stating IF>condition, then# or something like that for hundreds and thousands of lines. This was much to my delight, and I thought 'Oh man, some folks put some serious effort in designing this!' And, not being a programmer or designer myself, I would certainly say whoever designed the AI here is a brilliant mind.
